Overview: The Neurosciences Department of the Lerner Research Institute together with the Neurological Institute of the Cleveland Clinic seeks to hire a research associate team member to support a project investigating a novel neuromodulation-based approach to treat chronic, post-stroke motor impairment. The position forms part of an interdisciplinary, translation-driven program that brings together Neuroscientists, Biomedical Engineers as well as physician-scientists from the Center for Neurological Restoration and the Department of Radiology within the number two ranked hospital in the United States. The research community at Cleveland Clinic spans the research and clinical institutes and includes neuroscientists, biomedical engineers, physicists, mathematicians, geneticists, molecular biologists, and physician-scientists. Investigators are supported by one of the top and largest clinical neurological institutes in the country, comprised of more than 200 medical and surgical specialists dedicated to the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Clinical neuroscience research is supported by one of the most active and integrated neuromodulation centers in the country combined with state-of-the-art imaging and electrophysiology data acquisition infrastructure and expertise. Exceptional collaboration possibilities between laboratory and clinical scientists and access to large populations of patients provide a unique opportunity for translational investigations.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will participate in collaborative research that combines electrophysiological, imaging and behavioral data collection and analysis. Specifically, you will take part in clinical research activities associated with our on-going, multi-site, Phase II trial of cerebellar deep brain stimulation in chronic, post-stroke participants as well as signal processing and data analysis activities based upon a robust imaging and electrophysiological dataset acquired as part of the recently-published phase I trial (Nat. Med.: 37580534 ). Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 1) Collection and analyses of electrophysiological data sets, including synchronized physiology- and behavior-based data; 2) Development and implementation of signal processing and analyses methods; 3) Supervising data collection activities at secondary trial sites, include travel to set-up and troubleshoot remote data collection activities; 4) Collaboration with our industry partners and trial sponsors; and 5) Collaborative writing of scientific manuscripts and new intellectual property.

Requirements: We seek a highly creative, motivated and independent individual with a Ph.D. and completed post-doc fellowship in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, neurophysiology, biomedical engineering, signal processing, psychological sciences, or related fields. Strong laboratory and experimental research experience should be evidenced through a record of relevant publications and, ideally, include experience in some combination of experience in behavior-, electrophysiology-, or signal processing-based projects. Programming skill and experience with Matlab or Python is desirable.

To Apply: Please send 1) current curriculum vitae, 2) brief description of research interests and career goals, 3) contact information for three references to Kenneth Baker, Ph.D., Department of Neurosciences, via email at: negreyj2@ccf.org .
